Gatlinburg Wine Trail
Our Wineries

About us
Nestled in the foothills of The Great Smoky Mountains in the area known as “the peaceful side of the Smokies”, Townsend, TN serves as the perfect setting for truly inspired winemaking. We chose the name Cades Cove Cellars because we are not only passionate about the award-winning wines we create, but because we are also very passionate about the beautiful area in which we work, live, and play.
Townsend is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains and Cades Cove. The Cove is a quiet, beautiful valley in the mountains loaded with history and bountiful wildlife. Rustic buildings, dating back to the 1800s, are preserved by the National Park System and offer a step back in time for visitors.

About us
Each of our wines has a name associated with an important historical figure, key location, or other fact about the surrounding area. Popular offerings include a loganberry wine called Elkmont, a 100% Cherry wine called Cherry-Kee, and more traditional offerings such as Pinot Noir and Malbec. Enjoy a tasting of these wines and many more at our unique tasting bar, which is nearly in the center of our winemaking area! Our friendly tour guides will take you through the cellar, with a brief introduction to the world of winemaking, and help to answer any questions you might have about the Gatlinburg area.
One of the things we are most proud about is our partnership with local artist Robert A Tino and the non-profit group Friends of the Smokies. Each season of the year, we release a limited edition wine with Robert’s artwork to help raise funds to help preserve and protect the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. By the end of 2019, we will have raised over $180,000 by donate $5 for the first 1,000 bottles of wine sold each season!

About us
Cades Cove Cellars was founded by two generations of the Birkholz and Reed families. Jerry Reed has been a vintner and winemaker since 1984, and his daughter Cameran grew up working in the industry. In addition to her law degree, Cameran also attended UC Davis and received her winemaking certification in 2010. Cameran’s brother-in-law John Birkholz has been working as a cellar master for 12 years and now is both cellar master and assistant winemaker. John’s father and Cameran’s father-in-law Bill Birkholz serves as the president of the company, and is also frequently involved in public relations within the close-knit community of Townsend.
With a combined winemaking experience of 80 years, we constantly strive to capture the rustic elegance that surrounds us in every drop of wine we make. Whether it is in the grace of a white tailed deer or the majesty of a bald eagle, we find inspiration all around us for a process that is as much art at it is science.
